The largest district, mostly forest

According to the City Council, Fuencarral-El Pardo is the largest district, at 23,783.84 hectares, and 90% of its land is woodland such as El Pardo, El Goloso, Soto de Viñuelas and Valverde. The urban areas are grouped in the old Fuencarral core, the residential developments between Tetuán and the old carretera de la Playa, the El Pardo core and the institutional and industrial areas along the Colmenar Viejo road.

Two municipalities annexed in 1951

The municipality of El Pardo was annexed to Madrid on 27 March 1951 and Fuencarral on 20 October 1951. From 1950 the first urban settlements appeared: Mirasierra, upper-class single-family housing, Barrio del Pilar and Peñagrande were private developments, while La Ventilla and the UVA de Fuencarral were public projects aimed at eradicating shanty towns.

Eight neighbourhoods, three festivals

From 1970 the district moved up socially with developments such as Ciudad de los Periodistas and La Vaguada. Its neighbourhoods are El Pardo, Fuentelarreina, Peñagrande, Pilar, La Paz, Valverde, Mirasierra and El Goloso, with festivals on 25 April (Nuestra Señora de Valverde), the first week of September and 12 October.

What it means for buyers and sellers

  • In July 2026 it is the 10th most expensive of Madrid's 21 districts by median closing price.
